This morning, I will be part of the Global News team covering the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at our beautiful National War Memorial in Ottawa. Liberals to face third test in federal byelection in British Columbia next month
This one seems almost a certain looming loss for the LIberals. Liberal John Aldag won it in 2015; got defeated by Conservative Tamara Jansen in 2019 in a squeaker (1,500 votes or 1.5 points margin) then won it back in 2019 in another squeaker (1,500 votes or 3 points then). But Aldag quit to run unsuccessfully for David Eby's NDP and so the race is on again and, you guessed it, Tamara Jansen is the nominated Conservative candidate in this riding. Looking at current polling averages, she seems to be the favourite right now. The Liberals will run small business owner Madison Fleischer. -DA
Elgin—St. Thomas—London South votes for MP representative
MP Karen Vecchio (who won in three general elections in this riding for the CPC) was disappointed after the result, as she had openly endorsed [the opponent of winner Andrew Lawton] leading into the nomination meeting. “[That opponent] was given the shortest window I've ever seen and ran a very honorable campaign,” said Vecchio. “I've worked with him in the past, and he did a tremendous job for a five-day campaign.” She also didn’t like the way the nomination day was handled. Neither candidate was allowed on site, they weren’t able to campaign to their voters, and media were kept out of the building. “I'll be honest, I've never seen anything like this,” said Vecchio.
[Ad] "We're getting it done"
One of the key asks of MPs upset with Justin Trudeau and the LPC leadership is: More ads! Attack ads. Positive ads. Any ads! The CPC is spending 💰💰💰 on ads, these Liberals say, and the LPC is spending 🥜🥜. Well, here's a new LPC ad that debuted on digital Sunday: "We're getting it done" -DA

Part of an occasional series to highlight Canadian military regiments,Sc 876 marks the centenary of the creation of Lord Strathcona’s Horse, a regiment raised in 1900 by the railroad baron and ultra-rich Donald Alexander Smith (1820-1914), 1st Baron of Strathcona. Smith, using his own money, raised the regiment as a cavalry unit for service in South Africa. His proposal was not accepted until January, 1900. From Canada Post, “The first commander of the regiment was the legendary Samuel Benfield Steele (1849-1919) of the North-West Mounted Police, known for bringing law and order to the Yukon Territory during the Gold Rush. Made up of former cowboys and members of the N.W.M.P., all were experienced riders and marksmen. It distinguished itself in South Africa where Sgt. Richardson won the Victoria Cross. During the First World War, Lt. Frederick Harvey earned the Victoria Cross at Guyencourt, France, and Lt. Gordon Flowerdew won the same award at Moreuil Wood. With the outbreak of the Second World War, the regiment traded their horses for tanks and saw important engagements at the Melfa River in Italy, and later in Holland. They celebrated their centenary in May of 2000.
Sc 877 honours Les Voltigeurs de Quebec. Canada Post again: “A new Canadian militia unit was created in Quebec City in 1862, becoming known as 'The 9th Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles, Canada' (or Voltigeurs of Québec). The regiment first saw service during the Fenian Raids (1864-1866 and 1870), then served during the Northwest Rebellion of 1885. Joseph Vézina, a celebrated Quebec musician and composer, was the regimental band's director from 1867 to 1879. On the 24th of June, 1880 (St. Jean-Baptiste Day), he assembled a group of musicians, including members of the military band of the 9th Battalion, to play a series of popular Canadian melodies including 'Chant national', an arrangement that would in time become the anthem 'O Canada' In the First World War, the regiment would contribute more than five hundred volunteers and recruits for service with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. While most Canadian military units have flags (or 'Colours') bearing the regimental insignia and combat history, Les Voltigeurs (a rifle regiment) uses drums to display their battle honours. The stamp reflects this great tradition by featuring a member of the regiment in present-day uniform with the drum bearing the honours 'Northwest Canada 1885' and 'First World War'.
