‘I’m pissed’: Alberta premier, oil and gas industry slam Ottawa’s new emissions cap
The Canadian government is introducing new rules to try to force the country’s oil and gas sector to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions. They’re only draft regulations for now, but as David Akin explains, the plan is putting further strain on the federal government’s relationship with Alberta.
Treasury Board no access-to-info leader
Dean Beeby: Treasury Board recently published an annual report about the 365 requests it received in 2023-2024. The upshot is that it set a poor example. You might even say, ‘Physician, heal thyself!’
Zajdlik wins local federal Green Party nomination
The party announced Saturday evening after a vote between Zajdlik and Dylan White, with Zajdlik coming out on top. The provincial riding of Guelph is represented by Ontario Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner so the party has some organization strength here. And Kitchener Centre -- a 20-minute drive away -- has a federal Green MP, Mike Morrice. Could Guelph become the third federal riding to go Green. Seems unlikely to me. Right now, it's learning CPC.
Date pending for CPC nomination meeting in Elgin-Middlesex-London
“Many of the members of this EDA (electoral district association) have represented the Conservative Party and the riding for many years. Some have volunteered to be on the EDA for 15-plus years and helped multiple Conservative MPs and have volunteered in local and London ridings." Poilievre biographer Andrew Lawton wants this nomination and has criticized the riding "gatekeepers quoted in this article for preventing his easy passage as nominee.*

Nova Scotia Liberals release four-year $2.3-billion election platform
An ambitious target for housing and a replacement for federal carbon pricing are among the major promises contained in the Nova Scotia Liberals’ election platform, which commits to $2.3 billion in spending over four years.
Singh and May are welcome in N.S. campaign, but Trudeau and Poilievre not so much
Nova Scotia PC Leader Tim Houston and Liberal Leader Zach Churchill were categorical when asked Monday if they planned to summon help from Ottawa to join them on the hustings. "I have no intention of inviting the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada to campaign with me," said Houston. "No, we don't plan on doing that," said Churchill.
The status of Singh is interesting. He did campaign in support for former NDP leader John Horgan but was invisible in the last BC campaign when David Eby led the NDP to a narrow win. And he not only did not campaign in Saskatchewan in support of Sask NDP Leader Carla Beck, he was never even in the province for months ahead of the writ. My take: The federal NDP are on the downswing in BC and Sask -- so the polls say -- but they appear to poised to win seats in Atlantic Canada, particularly the federal riding of Halifax -- and it was in that riding that Singh campaigned with NS NDP Leader Claudia Chender.

Rustad seeks review as Elections BC says box of 861 votes went uncounted
The errors prompted B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad to call for an independent review on Monday. Elections BC said in a statement that the omission of the ballot box did not affect the result in Prince George-Mackenzie, the electoral district where the box was found.

Trump’s broad plan for 10% tariffs would be “very difficult for Canada,” ambassador warns
Former U.S. president Donald Trump has a plan to impose a 10 per cent tariff on all imports into America if he’s voted back into the White House. It’s a policy that would be “very difficult for Canada,” according to Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. But Hillman says the policy would not only raise prices on Canadian products, it would not be good for Americans either if it results in a tit-for-tat over tariffs between the two countries. On Global National, Dawna Friesen sat down to speak with the ambassador ahead of Tuesday’s election.
What an Iowa Poll From The Des Moines Register Could Tell Us About the 2024 Race
The poll has caused so many pundits and politicos to sit up because Ms. Selzer has been here before. In the final week before the 2020 election, Ms. Selzer released a poll of Iowa conducted with The Des Moines Register that showed Mr. Trump leading by seven points in the state. It was an outlier; other polls showed a much tighter race, with averages showing Mr. Trump ahead by just over one point. Ms. Selzer’s own poll from September of that year had shown Mr. Trump in a tie with Joe Biden. Mr. Trump won Iowa that year, by 53 percent to 45 percent, an eight-point margin of victory. “I’ve been the outlier queen so many times,” Ms. Selzer said in a phone interview on Monday. “I’m not jumpy.” Gifted story
A U.S. election poll in Iowa is making waves. Can it predict the race?
Could a new Iowa poll showing Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump in the state point to a larger trend in the presidential race? Experts are cautious to predict anything.
Trump threatens up to 100 percent tariffs on Mexico over immigration
Trump has already suggested new import duties of as high as 20 percent on every country in the world, and economists have warned that if enacted, his sweeping new trade proposals are likely to send costs soaring for U.S. consumers. But the former president has only intensified his proposals to raise tariffs on Mexico, arguing the country is doing too little to stop migration north. The guy who could be president again next year really doesn't get it, does he? Tariffs are a tax on his own people.
She Voted for Trump. Then She Had Two Terrifying Miscarriages in Texas
“I’m bleeding uncontrollably, I can’t stop it, and no one can help me because everyone’s afraid of what will happen.” At least, that’s how it felt during those hours in the waiting room. Just two months earlier, Texas’ trigger law had gone into effect, making abortion a felony punishable by life in prison. Experts warned the law would be a minefield. And it is.

Moldova’s pro-Western president wins second term in runoff overshadowed by Russian meddling claims
Moldova’s pro-Western President Maia Sandu has won a second term in office in a pivotal presidential runoff against a Russia-friendly opponent, in a race that was overshadowed by claims of Russian interference, voter fraud, and intimidation in the European Union candidate country. This is a win for Moldova democracy activists but also a win for the West and a defeat for Putin. Let's make sure Canada and the West support Moldova and President Sandhu.
